Most lecture hall desks were built before laptops. ClipDesk gives your laptop and your notes room to share one desk.
Lay the board on the edge of your desk so it extends your surface.
Attach the clamp to the desk edge so it grips firmly. Slide it to fit your desk.
Twist it tight and give it a firm tug. When it holds, set your laptop down and get to work.

The clamp slides and pivots, so you place it where your desk needs it, including angled and wedge-shaped desks.

Your desk edge needs to be solid and fit inside the clamp opening. We have tested ClipDesk on many lecture hall desks, but not every desk will work. Check the edge of yours before you buy.
Yes. The board extends your desk so a laptop can sit across the edge with room left for notes. Keep total weight under 30 lb and make sure the clamp is tight.
The aluminum clamp can mark some desk surfaces. Tighten it evenly and avoid sliding it while clamped.
Use dry-erase markers only and wipe the board with a dry cloth. Do not leave marker on the surface for long stretches.
It is water-resistant. Sealed edges and a wipe-clean surface handle splashes and spills, so wipe spills up promptly. It is not waterproof, so never soak or submerge it.

I kept moving my notes to the floor to make room for my laptop. One afternoon I tried wedging a clipboard against the desk. It did not hold, but the idea did.
After a few rounds of prototypes, ClipDesk became a board and a clamp that held up on every desk I tested. Classmates kept asking where to buy one, so I started selling them.
ClipDesk is a student-founded project from UC San Diego, and we are working on fixing small desks everywhere.
